SCHUNZ S. & WOLFF S. - External Dimensions of EU Internal Policies (20h)

This compulsory course investigates the rapidly evolving external dimensions of many internal policies of the European Union. While conveying insights into a range of important areas of EU external activity, it also strives for a critical, theory-informed reflection on this activity. Part 1 provides an introduction to various concepts, approaches and theories that help understand, explain and critically assess the external dimensions of EU internal policies. Parts 2 to 4 engage in an examination of a series of important internal EU policy areas which have developed significant external dimensions, including the EU’s environment, energy, migratory and internal security policies, as well as EU policies in the areas of culture, gender, religion and secularism. Part 5 offers a set of cross-cutting conclusions that underscore the relevance of the rapidly evolving external dimensions of EU internal policies.
