On 12 March 2014, the Department of European Political and Administrative Studies organizes a conference on "Economic and Monetary Union after the Crisis: Europe at Two Speeds."

The sovereign debt crisis has led to the strengthening of euro area economic governance. Has this come at the expense of European integration more generally, or can the two successfully co-exist without the creation of a permanent division in Europe? This conference considers some of the major reforms undertaken by the EU over the last five years and how they impact European integration. Are the needs of non euro area countries similar to those in the euro area? Can there be negative spillovers as a result of further euro area integration? What other policies might be affected by the division between the euro area and non euro area members? What are the implications of such differentiated integration?
