Preparing for a PhD: Tips and Tricks
The EG programme is organising a Compact Seminar called ‘Preparing for a PhD: Tips and Tricks’. In this CS, you will get the chance to familiarise yourselves with the processes behind a doctoral study in the social sciences field, from the application procedure to its finalising. The seminar is based on an interactive approach. After an introduction by Prof Georgakakis (Academic Coordinator of EG), AAs who are currently PhD candidates coming from different countries and academic backgrounds, will share their insights, provide you with useful information to embark upon the challenging yet stimulating journey of a doctoral study.
The Compact Seminar is divided into two main sessions: 2 February from 14:00 to 18:00 and 10 February from 08:30 to 12:30. Details about the course content can be found here (in ENG) and here (in FR). More generally speaking, we will discuss topics such as:
- Navigating through the application processes in different countries and in a variety of disciplines.
- Preparing and writing a PhD project for a proposal.
- Demystifying the doctoral experience, getting to know the every-day life of a PhD candidate, as well as the possible job opportunities at the end of the line.
- Discussing scientific communication methods both written and spoken.
The language course will be both in English and in French and adapted to the students’ profiles. Hence, please feel free to participate even if your French skills are not at a bilingual level.
